Bowis gains recognition from his peers - 11th October 2005.
John Bowis MEP has been awarded the honour of MEP of the year in the field of health. The Conservative health spokesman in the European Parliament was one of three nominees in the health category. His nomination was supported by various NGOs and not-for-profit organisations in Brussels and his final selection for the award was determined by a ballot of fellow MEPs. John was handed the award at a ceremony in Brussels, hosted by the Parliament Magazine. John has authored a number of health reports in the European Parliament this year on subjects such as neglected diseases and patient mobility. He has also championed a number of health causes including diabetes and breast cancer.
John said:
"This is a team award and I share it with my office. But these achievements are also with a whole batch of people in the health arena.
"It is a great honour to receive this award. There are many MEPs who devote a good deal of their time to furthering the cause of health across the European Union and beyond. I want to thank them for their support and I hope that we can continue to work together on health-care projects in the future."
