ACP/EU in Bamako, April 2005

The 9th Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA) was held in Bamako, Mali.

John Bowis had a very busy and active agenda in Mali following a number of subjects that arose in the discussions between parliamentarians from the ACP States and from the European Parliament. His work included:

- Amendments to stess health and environmental issues in the report on Post-Conflict Rehabilitation are adopted;
- Question to the ACP Council about inclusion of health in Country Strategy Papers;
- Question to the European Commission and Commissioner Louis Michel about preparedness for a potential flu pandemic;
- Questionning Commissioner Louis Michel about Liberia's Charles Taylor - one of the world's most wanted criminals;
- Follow-up to earlier ACP-EU work, including the Bowis-Sanga Report on Food Aid & Food Security;
- The situation in Sudan;
- Debate on the lessons from the response to the Tsunami;
- Visits to Santé Diabete Mali and health facilities supported by GAVI/Vaccine Fund.
