ACP/EU in The Hague, November 2004

The 8th Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA) was held in The Hague from 20th-24th November 2004.

The Assembly adopted reports on:
- Food Aid and Food Security,
- Political Dialogue (Article 8 of the Cotonou Agreement).

The two following themes were selected for urgent motions for resolutions:
- Situation in Darfur,
- The Damage Caused by Cyclones in the Caribbean.

John Bowis was Co-Rapporteur of the Report on Food Aid and Food Security. This report calls upon the European Commission and the governments of the ACP countries to renew the political will and develop the polices to tackle the scourge of hunger and open up access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food for all. The report looks at the role of food aid for the relief of humanitarian crises and the objective of food security by building markets, trade, transport, infrastructure and self-sufficiency.
