John Bowis MEP supports Fulham's Football and Community Scheme!

John Bowis - Conservative Member of the European Parliament for London - took time out from his election campaign to lend his support to Fulham FC's Football and Community Scheme. On Friday 21st May 2004 he attended the tournament for Lambeth Primary Schools girls at the Ferndale Community Sports Centre.

He was shown round by Fulham's former captain, Simon Morgan, who led Fulham to promotion to the Premier League and now heads the Club's Community schemes. Community Development Manager Somora Rattray and Karim Habibi, Lambeth's Community Development Officer also accompanied John Bowis during his visit, during which he met a number of the young players and school staff.

"It is an excellent initiative", John commented afterwards, "with tremendous enthusiasm among players and spectators. It is good to see girls taking up football, one of the fastest growing areas in British sport and one of the healthiest. With national worries about young peoples' diet and lack of exercise, both leading to heart disease and diabetes for many later in life, the Premiership campaign is brilliant and Fulham FC is setting the pace in many areas of the initiative".
