Lib-Dem calls Bush "completely mad"

Liberal Democrat MEP for London, Sarah Ludford, has called almost all of the Bush administration "completely mad".

Her comments, reported in the Washington Post, were made last week whilst representing the European Parliament on a trip to the United States, although the Leader of the Parliament Delegation issued an apology and an assurance that her views did not reflect those of the European Parliament.

Baroness Ludford was attending a ceremony awarding Colin Powell the George Marshall Award. She said that Secretary Powell was the only one in the Bush administration "who has some sanity about him. The others are completely mad."

London Conservative MEP John Bowis said:

"My colleagues and I were appalled to read the report of Baroness Ludford's comments, and have written a letter to the Rt Hon Charles Kennedy MP, demanding that he issue an apology.

"In the light of President Bush's state visit to London today, Londoners have the right to know whether or not she reflects the views of the British Liberal Democrat Party."
