John Bowis MEP visits the Heatham House Youth Centre in Twickenham

John Bowis - Conservative Member of the European Parliament for Twickenham and the London region - visited the Heatham House Youth Centre in Twickenham on Tuesday 19th August 2003. During his visit, John Bowis met a group of young people, who will be attending an international conference of young people in Portugal, with delegates from across Europe including the UK, Finland, Albania, Serbia and Croatia.

Speaking from the Heatham House Youth Centre John Bowis said, "I was delighted to have been given this opportunity to visit the Heatham House Youth Centre and meet many of the young people who benefit from this facility. I was particularly interested in meeting those delegates who will be visiting Portugal next week as part of the international conference of young people. Opportunities for young people to meet their contemporaries from other countries should be encouraged, as they help to foster goodwill and co-operation between people of different nations."

John Bowis added, "I also had the opportunity to speak to members of the Heatham House Youth Centre about the European Union and my work as an MEP for Twickenham. For example the European Parliament can make a significant difference on environmental pollution issues - only recently pressure by myself and others to stop dolphins being killed by fishing nets, has resulted in the European Commission announcing action to protect them. Issues such as this require co-operation between the countries of Europe and help to protect the planet and safeguard it for future generations."
