MEP visits Tottenham to highlight the need for a new start on Haringey Council

John Bowis - Conservative Member of the European Parliament for Haringey and Environment spokesman - was in Tottenham Hale, on Friday 10th January 2003 with local Conservative Tony Cox - listening to the concerns of local people about the failure of Labour run Haringey Council to tackle the issues that matter to local people.

Speaking from Tottenham Hale, John Bowis said, “On Thursday 23rd January 2003 the people of Tottenham Hale have a chance to offer their verdict on the failures of Labour run Haringey Council. Whether it be Labour’s failure to fight vandalism, clean up graffiti or removed dumped cars, Labour’s track record in Haringey is one of neglect and poor service.”

John Bowis continued, “The people of Haringey rightly ask themselves, ‘what value for money do we get from Labour in Haringey?’ – the answer sadly is very little. Haringey Council is desperately calling for a breath of fresh air that will re-engage the Council with the needs and concerns of local people. Labour in Haringey have become hostages to there own arrogance, unwilling to change and unprepared to listen to common sense. Only the Conservatives recognise that the answers to many of Haringey’s problems are much needed reforms of public services, that will put peoples’ concerns first.”
