AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration) Awareness

Speaking at the launch of the campaign on AMD awareness in the European Parliament John Bowis MEP, Conservative Health Spokesman, called on the British Government to put Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) higher on the UK health agenda. He said:

"AMD is the most common cause of blindness. It is crucial that every 50 year old has an eye test. Early diagnosis can make a difference, so can early treatment and accessible advice to individuals and families.

"We politicians need to understand that with an ageing population there are going to be many more people with AMD in our communities and in our own families."
