Products tested on animals face EU ban by 2010

Cosmetic companies that test their products on animals face a ban on their products by 2010 under new EU plans approved by the European Parliament.

Conservative Health Spokesman in the European Parliament, John Bowis MEP said today,

"These new rules will see animal testing phased out over a reasonable timetable to allow companies to find alternative testing methods. We want to make sure that we strike the right balance between animal welfare and human health."

The European Parliament's 'Cosmetics report' was voted through the Environment, Health and Consumer Protection Committee yesterday.
